Legendary Entertainment has revived talks to acquire Lionsgate and submitted a takeover offer, according to a Bloomberg report. No agreement has been announced, and the terms of the offer were not disclosed. Legendary, the producer behind the Dune and Minecraft film franchises, had weighed a bid for Lionsgate the previous year. The two companies have reportedly held intermittent discussions since then.
Lionsgate shares rose more than 15 percent following the report. A combination would unite two significant independent film and television producers at a time of broad consolidation in Hollywood. Any deal would remain subject to negotiation and approvals.
