The upcoming horror feature Molepeople is undergoing a significant production change, with director Ben Wheatley replacing Rob Savage and actor LaKeith Stanfield departing the project.

Savage reportedly stepped away because of scheduling conflicts, leaving Wheatley to take over directing responsibilities.

Written by Nathan Elston, the story follows a man who enters abandoned tunnels beneath New York City and discovers a disturbing underground society.

The film is being developed through a partnership involving Blumhouse Atomic Monster and Paramount Primal.

Producers include Jason Blum, J.D. Lifshitz, Raphael Margules, and James Harris.

Paramount is handling worldwide distribution, with the project currently scheduled for theatrical release on August 27, 2027.

The creative changes arrive as the production prepares for its next stage of development, although a replacement for Stanfield has not yet been announced.
