Eddie Murphy's upcoming Peacock drama The Chairman is undergoing a significant creative transition following the departure of acclaimed television writer and producer Matthew Weiner as showrunner.
Weiner, best known for creating AMC's Emmy winning series Mad Men, reportedly exited the project over creative differences with the production's leadership.
The series, produced by Universal Television and David Glasser's 101 Studios, remains in development with Murphy attached to star and executive produce.
A replacement showrunning team is reportedly being assembled, while the writers' room has entered a temporary two week hiatus during the transition.
The project represents a notable return to series television for Murphy, whose entertainment career began on NBC's Saturday Night Live before he became one of Hollywood's most successful film stars.
Weiner, whose credits also include The Sopranos and The Romanoffs, had originally been attached to write and oversee the ambitious drama.
Although specific plot details remain confidential, The Chairman is among the first major projects emerging from 101 Studios' television partnership with NBCUniversal.
With new creative leadership expected to be announced, the production continues moving forward as Peacock develops its next wave of scripted original programming.
