Tom Hanks returned to Saturday Night Live as David S. Pumpkins during the program's Halloween episode. The character appeared in the show's opening sketch, which also featured James Austin Johnson portraying President Donald Trump.

The sketch combined the familiar Halloween character with political satire ahead of the November midterm elections. The episode was hosted by Inde Navarrette, with Gracie Abrams appearing as musical guest.
