Netflix has renewed its political thriller The Diplomat for a fifth season, extending the series beyond its previously announced fourth installment.

The drama stars Keri Russell as Kate Wyler, an American diplomat navigating international crises and complicated political relationships.

Rufus Sewell, Allison Janney, and Bradley Whitford are among the established performers associated with the series.

Created by Debora Cahn, The Diplomat combines geopolitical intrigue with character driven drama and institutional conflict.

The renewal reinforces Netflix's continuing investment in returning original series with recognizable casts and established audiences.

Political thrillers remain an important part of the platform's scripted programming strategy as streaming services compete for subscriber attention.

Additional production and premiere details for the fifth season have not yet been announced.
